Reflection
During phase 2, I had to read a narrative of one of my classmates, write an analysis, and interview my classmates, which made me learn things about the person. This assignment made me see a different perspective and experience than mine, which was good because it made me understand things in a different light. Based on the questions I asked my classmates and the narrative I read, I learned different things such as religion, tradition, society, and personal things from my classmates. While analyzing the narrative, I had to examine and summarize the narrative intention, rhetorical strategies, and how readers might experience the text. By doing this, I developed my critical reading and analytic practices, which will help me analyze my work and others and improve my writing.
Why Write?
People write to inform/persuade, express themselves, write literary work, and communicate. Writing is an important skill in society because people write books, lyrics, magazines, and articles, which help people entertain and gain knowledge. Also, writing for those who can’t speak or hear is important because they can communicate and read stuff. Also, people journal to express themself and talk from my point of view. Without writing, I wouldn’t be able to journal, which helps me a lot to express myself and write down my ideas and emotions. Also, I can text my friends, which I prefer instead of talking. And, thanks to writing, I’m able to read books.
Narrative
Reflection
During phase 1, I read different types of reading about language and literacy. These readings made me see more about the stereotypes about culture, language, and literacy and how language and literacy impact someone’s life, also the readings talks about how society interpreted language and literacy.
The different activities we did in class improved my writing and helped me comprehend what the author said more in-depth. For example, the rhetorical situation worksheet helped me understand the readings better because we had to answer some questions based on the reading in which the answers were not obvious. Hence, I had to do some critical thinking, which made me understand the reading more in-depth.
